Community Relations Internship
The ForKids Development Team works to further public awareness of our homeless community’s needs and the ways ForKids services this population. Community Relations plays a crucial role in raising support for our services through representing our agency and clients in our local community. Two interns will be needed in the fall to help with the many events ForKids will be putting hosting, including our 20th Anniversary party and a Radio-Thon in October.
Requirements: Majoring in Communications or Public Relations. Strong communication skills and public appearance, good telephone skills, the ability to follow through and trouble shoot a task to completion without constant supervision. Must be comfortable working with a computer.
Children’s Services Internship
ForKids focuses its services on families with children who have struggled to maintain stable housing. Our Children’s Services Department facilitates care for these children through educational enrichment, counseling, case management and general fun and nurturing activities. One intern is needed to assist with case management duties, advocating for our students in Norfolk Public Schools, assist with tutoring, attend Children’s Services events and help create activities for the children.
Requirements: Majoring in Education, Psychology, Human Services, Counseling or Sociology. Strong background working with children. A clean driving record is necessary in order to help drive our children to events. Good leadership and organizational skills are necessary. Must be patient and flexible.
Case Management Internship
ForKids offers personalized services to its families through our Case Management programs. Interns are needed to assist Case Managers in visiting clients, delivering services and properly documenting all aspects of cases. Responsibilities involve assisting a Case Manager in providing services to homeless families in the Tidewater area. Daily tasks include assisting in day to day operations, making phone calls, data entry, case management basics, and reports.
Requirements: Majoring in Human Services, Psychology or Sociology. The ability to work under deadlines is necessary. Applicant should have excellent written and oral skills, be able to work in Word, Excel, filing, and have their drivers license and own transportation. Organization and a good work ethic are a must.
