Gold’s Gym presents the Zoo Run ForKids at Lafayette Park

108 runners raced through Lafayette Park in Norfolk Saturday to raise money for ForKids. The 5K race and a 1 mile family fun race raised three-thousand dollars.

Gold’s Gym sponsored the run. Gold’s Gym managers Ben Venuto and Jen Johns coordinated the first ever event. Norfolk Mayor Paul Fraim praised Gold’s for being a dedicated corporate citizen to Norfolk. Mayor Fraim also praised ForKids Executive Director Thaler McCormick for her agency’s work to end homelessness for children and families in the mermaid city. “There wouldn’t be a ten year plan to end homelessness without Thaler.”

Gold’s Gym adopted ForKids as the Charity of Choice immediately upon opening on Monticello Avenue last fall. Venuto said he was proud of the partnership. “Gold’s Gym is dedicated to helping the communities where we do business and we are dedicated to helping ForKids in their effort to end homelessness.”

Miss Teen Norfolk, Samantha Hardee sang the National Anthem, and

Miss Pre-teen Norfolk, Brittney Walters, Little Miss Hampton Roads, Ragan Jackson, and Miss Greater Richmond Prentiss Marquis helped start the race. The young beauty queens also handed out the prizes to the winners and then ran in the family race!
