AGC “Ride For The Children” Raises Thousands of Dollars for ForKids
Raymond Key and his crew were certainly “Keyed Up” to win the 8th Annual Associated General Contractors Poker Run on Friday July 18th. “It’s all for
the children” said Key before he knew he held the winning hand. Upon learning he won, Key put his money where his mouth was and donated his $2,000
prize back to ForKids.
Key wasn’t the only benevolent contractor on the water Friday. 20 boats filled with big hearted crews left Waterside Marina for stops at four other marinas.
The boaters picked up a poker chip at each stop and cashed them in for cards at the final stop. The final stop was Kokoamo’s at Marina Shores. Boaters
paid $250 to participate and to help raise money for ForKids.
ForKids Development Team members Serena Amerson, Margie Mazzarella, and Priscilla Monti shared the stories of ForKids clients and their needs with
the Poker Run participants. The money raised will go directly to help the six families moving into the new ForKids Legacy home on 38th Street in Norfolk.
“Third party fund raisers are more important now because of the economy. ForKids is thrilled to have the Associated General Contractors help us in this
way. This money will help these families moving into the 38th street six unit apartment building stay together, instead of splitting up and sending children to Foster Care.” ForKids Community Relations Coordinator Priscilla Monti told the boaters on the deck at Kokoamos and live on Bob FM with Holly Williams.
Participants and sponsors included Steve Ballard of SB Ballard, Taylor Franklin of S.L. Nusbaum Realty, and Bob Veith of Veith and Company.
The accounting crews from Sullivan, Andrews, & Taylor CPA did a fabulous job of handing out the chips and keeping tabs on all the boaters.
ForKids provides families with housing and comprehensive services to foster permanent, positive family development leading to self-sufficient
futures. ForKids is passionately committed to ending the cycle of homelessness for children in South Hampton Roads.
ForKids thanks the sponsors and participants for their help with this FUNdraiser!
