New Volunteer Coordinator

ForKids' Volunteer Coordinator, Chanika Nelson, has completed her last day at ForKids to further her career in public service. Chanika was accepted to ODU's M.P.A. program approximately one year ago. She leaves ForKids after two years, accepting a position at ODU's Research Foundation. Chanika was an incredible Volunteer Coordinator and we know she will excel in her future endeavors. ForKids is pleased to share that Megan Iacobellis has succeeded Chanika.  Megan has been with the ForKids team since January, fulfilling various duties as an intern, part-time development staff and most recently as the Development Assistant.  Megan graduated from ODU this Spring with her Master’s in Public Administration.  We were delighted to learn that Megan was interested in the position and she has hit the ground running. Chanika made many improvements to the volunteer program during her time at ForKids and we will miss her.

School Supply Drive

With the addition of Suffolk House and the expansion of the In-Home program, ForKids needed 350 bookbags filled with supplies (200 more than last year). Thankfully, our community united to help supply over 350 bookbags for the ForKids children! Bookbag distribution will occur from August 17th - August 28th. Further assistance is needed to help sort and distribute the bookbags during this time. We will need 1-2 volunteers per day. Hot Meals & Homework

School is just around the corner and everyone at ForKids is excited that the Hot Meals & Homework program will begin September 8th. Hot Meals & Homework is every Monday-Thursday from 4pm-6pm with approximately ten (10) children attending each night. We are looking for dedicated volunteers that can attend on a regular basis to help with tutoring and mentoring. Click here to view the Hot Meals & Homework brochure.
