June Volunteer Spotlight
At ForKids, we depend on our amazing volunteers to ensure that we are able to provide the best programs and services to our families. This month, we would like to recognize Ms. Sherri Rome for her continued dedication and support of ForKids. Thank you Ms. Sherri for all of your hard work!
“Ms. Sherri has been an amazing and dedicated volunteer (baby hugger) for more than a year now. Ms. Sherri shows up every Tuesday ready to jump right in. She has rocked, held, fed, played with and hugged over 25 babies and that number continues to grow. She is a stand out volunteer because she is so dedicated to the children and our program. She goes beyond her call of duty to see fit that the children and even staff know that she cares. She shows up every Tuesday, and if for some reason she can’t make it, she ALWAYS calls in advance and will volunteer to come on another day. That level of commitment to the children is much appreciated. There aren’t many volunteers like Ms. Sherri and we here at Haven House Children’s Services are definitely blessed to have her. We Need 50 Volunteers!
Volunteer Opportunities Include: assisting with registration, hospitality, parking, directing runners, handing
out water, etc.
Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
G.E.D. Tutors - Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at 4200 Colley Ave.
Landscaping - Flexible schedules and locations.
General Tutors – Volunteers needed Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Morgan Place and Monday through Thursdays from 3:30 – 5:00 pm at Suffolk House.
Adult Education Teachers - We are seeking teachers to offer life skills and/or expressive classes for the adults in our program. Life Skills courses include topics such as stress relief, budgeting, parenting tips, and health & wellness. Expressive classes for adults include but are not limited to: collage making, yoga, beginning knitting, book and poetry writing.
Baby Huggers - hold and coddle babies while parents attend required adult education courses. Volunteers needed at Haven House on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.
